Karly Schofield
Karly Schofield a flute player with Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and a flute and fiddle teacher. She has performed in ensembles for traditional and chamber groups. Karly is passionate about Irish tunes and has been hosting the weekly ‘Sudbury Tune Sessions’ for many years.
Karly teaches at her home in Sudbury.
Duncan Cameron
Duncan Cameron is a bilingual Celtic singer and multi-instrumentalist and storyteller.
His late father Stewart Cameron’s mastery of Scottish ballads was his first inspiration, and in his teens, Duncan started singing with his family. At folk festivals, The Cameron Family performed not only music and storytelling, but also traditional mummers’ plays. He chose the fiddle as his first instrument but also plays mandolin, guitar, Irish bouzouki, tin whistle, harmonica, banjo, ukulele, bodhrán and English concertina.
Traditional Irish, English and French-Canadian groups have contributed much of Duncan's repertoire, but classical, country, and other popular styles of music have also added to his creative approach.
He has toured, recorded with, and composed music for many groups including The Pierre Schryer Band (Juno nominated in 2004), The Irish Descendants and Fagroongala. Fig For A Kiss’s album Fallen Leaf, which features many of Duncan’s original compositions was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2006. His solo performances and his solo CD, The Whistling Thief (2000) have also garnered attention. His strong vocals (in both French and English), intricate arrangements, and sense of humour truly transport the listener.
Duncan is the winner of the 2019 Jackie Washington Award for outstanding contributions to arts and culture in Northern Ontario, Northern Lights Festival Boréal. Duncan has self-published five books of fiddle tunes, including two books of original compositions, and a tin whistle book. His fiddle instruction videos on YouTube are popular internationally and have been recommended by various fiddle schools.
Duncan teaches fiddle, English concertina, guitar, mandolin, Irish bouzouki, ukulele, bodhrán, tin whistles, harmonica, banjo, and Appalachian dulcimer. He teaches at Long & McQuade in Sudbury.
